Shipyard Safety Instruction Course For Workers - Hot Work Trade (SSIC-HW)
Overview
Shipyard Safety Instruction Course for Workers- Hot Work Trade (SSIC-HW) is a mandatory WSH training course for all workers working in the ship building and ship repairing industry.
Participants who are Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents (SPR) sponsored by Company or Individuals are eligible for the Skills Development Fund (SDF) Funding administrated by the SkillsFuture Singapore Agency (SSG). Individuals can however apply for SkillsFuture Credits to pay for their training (only applicable for Singaporeans aged 25 and above). For further informations, log on to myskillsfuture.gov.sg.
Course Content
Theory:
- Introduction to Shipyard Safety Instruction Course for Workers (Hot-Work Trade)
- Know the different types of Hot-work
- Know characteristics of flammable substances
- Understand how vapours/ gases can accumulate in confined spaces
- Understand how fires/ explosions are caused
- Understand case studies on two shipyard fire and explosion accidents
- Know and take safety measures for preventing fire explosions
Course Objective
Participants will be able to recognise their roles and duties in shipyard works, implement safety measure and procedures for hot work works.

This course is designed for all workers working in the shipbuilding and ship repairing industry
Entry Requirement
Singaporean citizen, Permanent Resident or Holder of Valid employment pass/ work permit. Must be over 18 years of age. Must be physically and mentally fit for the training. The learner must have completed and passed the Shipyard Safety Instruction Course for Workers (General Trade) to be eligible to attend this course. Proof of this entry requirement must be submitted to the LSP. The LSP must retain the proof for future verification and audit.

Coretrade
Construction Registration of Tradesmen, or CoreTrade, is a registration scheme administered by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) for skilled and experienced construction personnel in the various key construction trades.
As MOM require, all construction firms must have at least 10% of their work permit holders (WPHs) to be qualified as “Higher Skilled” R1 workers. Construction personnel registered under the Multi-skilling Scheme are qualified as “Higher Skilled” R1 workers under the Ministry of Manpower (MOM)’s Foreign Worker Levy Scheme.

– Min 4 years experience in construction sector in Singapore
1) Have two (2) recognised Skills Evaluation Certiifcate [ SEC/SEC(K) ] of different trades
2) Have a minimum of four (4) years of construction experience in Singapore

1) One (1) Skills Evaluation Certificate [ SEC/SEC(K) ]
2) Have a minimum of six (6) years of construction experience in Singapore;
3) Completed 120 hours of training in approved safety-related courses.
Or
1) One (1) Skills Evaluation Certificate [ SEC/SEC(K) ]
2) Have a minimum of six (6) years of construction experience in Singapore.
3) Obtained WSQ Advanced Certificate in Workplace Safety and Health.
Coretrade

No, it is only available for construction worker and over 4 years constryction experience in Singapore
The Direct R1 Scheme was implemented, on 1 Sep 2015, to provide another alternative pathway for the industry to upgrade their construction workers. It allows those who pass the Skills Evaluation Certificate (Knowledge), SEC(K), test at higher skill level and draw a fixed monthly salary of $1,600 or more, to be considered as R1 (Higher Skilled) workers; under the Ministry of Manpower Tiered-Levy Scheme.
Yes, you may proceed to request statement (SEC(K)). Its is cost $24 nett and 10 working days processing time.
